Pennsylvania Institute of Technology

Known as the Technology College of the Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania Institute of Technology offers Associate degrees in computer technology that include training for relevant industry certifications. With small class sizes averaging less than ten students, and a hands-on approach to education, the programs offered at PIT are designed to provide an career-oriented education that leads to job placement. Since 1974, 94% of graduates have been placed in jobs relevant to their education.

PIT is a member of the Microsoft IT Academy and the Cisco Networking Academy. Pennsylvania Institute of Technology is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, 215-662-5606). It also is approved as a two-year College by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Degree and Diploma Programs

Associate Degree in Computer and Communication Technology

Students in this program learn the fundamentals of computer networking and telecommunications technology. They develop skills in electronics, microprocessors, routers, and TCP/IP. Students can choose from three program tracks, including Media Specialist, Cisco Certified Network Administrator, and Hardware Technical Specialist.

The Media Specialist track focuses on broadband wireless technologies. Students learn the Cisco Wireless LAN products, and upon graduation, are prepared to take the Cisco Wireless Administrator exam.

The Cisco Certified Network Administrator track provides training in telecommunications, and the configuration of routers and switches. Graduates are prepared to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam.

The Hardware Technical Specialist track teaches students to troubleshoot electronic devices at the component level. The program includes preparation for the CompTIA Network+ and A+ technician exams.

Associate Degree in Computer Software and Information Technology

This program focuses on understanding and working with the ever-changing world of information technology. Topics include computer programming, computer networking, operating systems, and project management skills. Students can choose from three tracks, including User Support Specialist, System Administration and Support, and Programmer Analyst. Each concentration prepares the graduate to take relevant certification exams.

The User Support Specialist track includes training in the Microsoft Office suite of desktop applications, and certification training for the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification. Students also receive training in help desk functions.

The System Administration and Support track prepares students to design and support a Microsoft network environment. Students learn Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and Internet Security. Graduates are prepared to take the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator exam.

The Programmer Analyst track teaches students to develop applications in Visual Basic and Java. The program also covers interface design, XML Web services, and database design. Upon graduation, students are prepared to take the Microsoft Certified Applications Developer (MCAD) and Sun Certified Java Programmer exams.

Associate Degree in Web Design

In addition to learning web design and programming, this program teaches students the skills they need to be successful in the world of the Internet. Courses include training on Java and LINUX, multimedia and computer graphics, and data communications and networking. Students learn good web design principles, and how to use these principles to create effective web and intranet sites.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Prospective students are encouraged to visit the school's campus to get their questions answered, and to become more familiar with the program they are interested in.
